Higher Order Statistics in Cosmology

20 Jul 2007 - 10:00am
20 Jul 2007 - 6:00pm

The Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation (ICG) at the University of Portsmouth hosted a one day workshop on higher order statistics in cosmology. The meeting focused on the application of higher order statistics, this includes use of n-point correlation functions in quantifying the galaxy distribution, searches for non-gaussianity in the CMB and constraining the higher order terms present in gravitational lensing. We also covered the theoretical sources of such higher-order correlations and statistics. This will be the 3rd annual workshop on observational cosmology held at the ICG.

Brane-World Gravity - Progress and Problems

18 Sep 2006 - 12:00am
29 Sep 2006 - 11:59pm

The workshop aims to bring together experts in the study of gravity in higher-dimensional spacetime, to explore distinctive aspects of gravity and cosmological solutions embedded in curved spaces. We will be interested in reviewing progress in understanding brane-world gravity, the connection with string theory, and seeking observational tests, as well as exploring outstanding challenges and problems in the field.

Galaxy Redshift Surveys of the Future

20 Jul 2006 - 10:00am
20 Jul 2006 - 6:00pm
The Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation (ICG) at the University of Portsmouth hosted a one day workshop, 20 July 2006, on "Galaxy Redshift Surveys of the Future". The workshop was organised in honour of Jim Gunn, who will receive an Honorary Degree from the University of Portsmouth on 19 July 2006. The workshop also follows on from the previous years workshop on "Surveys of Dark Energy", which was organised to coincide with the SDSS collaboration meeting held in Portsmouth in June 2005. Workshop on Surveys of Dark Energy

21 Jun 2005 - 10:00am
21 Jun 2005 - 6:00pm
The Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation (ICG) at the University of Portsmouth hosted a one day workshop on future observations of dark energy. The meeting focused on the present constraints on dark energy and on planned or proposed dark energy experiments in various fields, including large scale structure, weak lensing, supernovae, clusters and the microwave background.
