The Institute of Cosmology & Gravitation at the University of Portsmouth is one of the leading cosmology groups in the UK. We are a member of the Dark Energy Survey (DES), the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS-III), COSMOS (the UK cosmology supercomputer consortium), and SEPnet (South-East Physics Network) Astrophysics.

PhD studentships starting in October 2012 will be available for research in:

  • Observational Cosmology
  • Dark Energy and Modified Gravity theory
  • The Early Universe
  • Galaxy Evolution
  • Structure Formation

Senior Research Associate in Observational Cosmology

Fixed term contract for three years Salary: £27,428 to £30,870 Reference: 10003291 Closing date: 6th January 2012 The Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation (ICG) intends to appoint a Postdoctoral Researcher to support its research in the Faculty of Technology at the University of Portsmouth. The researcher will participate in international research on large-scale structure based primarily on the analysis and/or interpretation of data from cosmological surveys.

Dennis Sciama Research Fellow in Cosmology

Fixed term contract for three years Salary: £31,797 to £34,746 Reference: 10003290 Closing date: 30th December 2011 The Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation (ICG) invites applications for a postdoctoral research fellowship in theoretical cosmology named in honour of the pioneering British cosmologist Dennis Sciama (1926-1999). We seek an outstanding postdoctoral scientist to work in collaboration with existing staff in the ICG.

Postdoctoral Researchers in Galaxy Evolution, Radio Interferometry and Theoretical Cosmology (3 positions)

Postdoctoral Researchers in Galaxy Evolution, Radio Interferometry and Theoretical Cosmology (3 positions) Salary: £27,428 - £30,870 Reference: 10002606 Closing date: 31st August 2011 The Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation (ICG) intends to appoint three new postdoctoral researchers (fixed term contracts for 2 years) to support its international research in the Faculty of Technology at the University of Portsmouth. The ICG is advertising for researchers to participate in: 1.

Fellowships at the ICG

The ICG welcomes candidates interested in applying for research fellowships to be held in Portsmouth. A variety of potential fellowships are available, including Marie Curie (EU) fellowships, Royal Society University Research Fellowships, the Ernest Rutherford Fellowships (STFC) and possibly national fellowships from the candidate's country of origin. Expressions of interest for fellowships should be addressed to an ICG staff member with a connection to the proposed research; CV's and research proposals should be sent to icg-admin@port.ac.uk by the deadlines indicated.
